چکیده

In this paper, we describe an extensible experimental infrastructure for evaluating the micro-architectural leakage, based on power consumption, that stems from a physical device. Building existing literature, use it to systematically study 14 different devices, which span 4 instruction set architectures and vendors. The allows characterisation of each device with respect any leakage effects stemming sources within implementation. We it, example, identify document several novel (e.g., due speculative execution), scenarios where assumption about is non-portable between yet compatible devices.Ours widest its kind are aware of, highlights range challenges 1) design, implementation, evaluation e.g., masking schemes, 2) construction accurate models, 3) selection suitable devices research. For in relation 1), cast further doubt whether given upholds assumptions required by scheme; 2), conclude (statistical or formal) models must include information micro-architecture being modelled; 3), claim near mono-culture dominates literature insufficient support general claims regarding leakage. This particularly important context FIPS 140-3 standard non-invasive side-channel evaluation.

Self-etching bonding systems: in-vitro micro-leakage evaluation.

The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare dentine and enamel micro-leakage values of six self-etching bonding agents to that of a total etch dentine bonding agent (used as a control). Products evaluated were Scotchbond Multipurpose Plus (3M/ESPE), Xeno III (Dentsply), Clearfil SE Bond (Kuraray), ABF (Kuraray), Optibond Solo Self-Etch (Kerr), OneCoatSE Bond (Colténe Whaledent), and iBond...

Micro-Architectural Power Simulator for Leakage Assessment of Cryptographic Software on ARM Cortex-M3 Processors

Masking is a common technique to protect software implementations of symmetric cryptographic algorithms against Differential Power Analysis (DPA) attacks. The development of a properly masked version of a block cipher is an incremental and time-consuming process since each iteration of the development cycle involves a costly leakage assessment. To achieve a high level of DPA resistance, the arc...

Architectural Leakage Power Minimization of Scratchpad memories

Partitioning a memory into multiple blocks that can be independently accessed is a widely used technique to reduce its dynamic power. For embedded systems, its benefits can be even pushed further by properly matching the partition to the memory access patterns. When leakage energy comes into play, however, idle memory blocks must be put into a proper low-leakage sleep state to actually save ene...

MAO - An extensible micro-architectural optimizer

Performance matters, and so does repeatability and predictability. Today’s processors’ micro-architectures have become so complex as to now contain many undocumented, not understood, and even puzzling performance cliffs. Small changes in the instruction stream, such as the insertion of a single NOP instruction, can lead to significant performance deltas, with the effect of exposing compiler and...
